The artist has given the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

He was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his third album the album was named the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the performances I did around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his live tour to help numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, blazes and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues were granted financial assistance in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and audiences.

"The notion that money from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to contribute his award prize money to worthy causes.

Back when the band won the award in the year 1996 for their record Different Class, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would contribute their cash to the organization War Child.

In 2002, artist the artist split her prize across multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," she explained to the media.

Two years ago, they donated their prize money to the youth organization that nurtured their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients the group donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," said artist Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our winning touched the lives of others."

Last week, the trust announced it had protected a couple of small stages in the South East, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the other in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
